Physiotherapy is back in Salmo

Published in the Salmo Valley Newsletter

SALMO, BC – There’s a new physiotherapist in Salmo! Todd Van der Star, a Ymir resident, opened his doors to patients this spring. Want to know more about this new Salmo Physio guy?  He loves to brew beer, mountain bike, backcountry ski and climb mountains. These recreational activities are what brought Todd here initially, but while exploring these mountains, he found a vibrant, supportive community here in the Salmo river valley. And that is exactly why he has opened Salmo Physio: “working within your own community offers an incredible opportunity to engage on a deeper level with the people around you. I love being able to help my neighbour with a knee injury, or a friendly acquaintance with a sore back. It just feels right.” As a physio, Todd has additional training in concussion management, vestibular rehabilitation (dizziness/vertigo), movement analysis, Intra-muscular stimulation (IMS) and exercise prescription. In fact, did you know that many balance and dizziness/vertigo problems can be treated with physiotherapy? Todd might just be the guy to help stop the world from spinning around you.

Physiotherapists are movement experts, we combine our in-depth knowledge of the human body with specialized hands-on skills to assess, diagnose and treat injury, illness and disability. Simply put, we restore function in your body so you can move well. To achieve this, Physiotherapists draw from a broad set of treatment skills: from hands-on manual therapy techniques, Intra-muscular stimulation (IMS) with an acupuncture needle, to exercise prescription. Every physiotherapy session is different depending on what you need. You do not need a doctor’s referral to see a physiotherapist and many extended health plans offer coverage for physiotherapy.

At Salmo Physio, Todd works with patients in 1 on 1 assessment and treatment sessions on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. “I love to be able to work 1 on 1 with patients, I feel like I can make a bigger impact in these sessions and we are rarely pressed for time when it is just me and the patient.” Salmo Physio is located in the green building north of the Salmo Hotel on the highway, at 313 Railway Ave. You can find out more at salmophysio.com, 250-551-9119, [email protected]. Online booking is available.
